The Marsh murder

In regard to the murder of Frank Marsh, the story of which was published in the Mail Friday, the Joplin Globe says: The murder has been the sole topic of discussion here today, and every effort of the police has been directed to the murderers. Mrs. Marsh, wife of the murdered man, was prostrated by the tragedy, but is tonight gradually recovering and faces the awful situation with considerable fortitude.

The only man claiming any knowledge of the assassination is Pacific Chenet. He says that Marsh asked him to call at his house early yesterday morning, as he was engaged in a real estate deal and would need his assistance. Chenet then told him he intended to buy a building at Fleming, Kan., and wanted him to go along. They drove through Chicopee to Fleming, only to find that the man Marsh wanted to see was not at home, and they drove on to Weir City. They returned to Fleming and found the party Marsh wanted. He would not sell to Marsh and they started back to Pittsburg.

When they reached West Chicopee, Chenet claims, Marsh went to his saloon and grocery and later to his house, where he remained until after dark. Marsh claimed he was afraid to drive to Pittsburg alone and asked Chenet to accompany him. They started to Pittsburg, about half a mile out on the road Chenet says they were stopped by three men, each of whom had a revolver.

Mercury zooms to 76 today

In the spring a young man's fancy turns to various things, and the weatherman was going all out today to rush the spring season along providing temperatures in the high 70s this afternoon.

Slight cases of spring fever were noted as employees in many firms thought up excuses to get out in the pleasant sunshine.

While providing this warm day the weatherman also enabled Nevada to nudge the record in the high temperature department for February. As of 2 p.m., today the mercury stood at a pleasant 76 degrees.
