Last week The Beacon held its annual soup line, with the proceeds going to provide supplies for the local agency. A network of 12 churches, numerous volunteers, and satisfied consumers has made this annual event a community highlight.
Deep in the kitchen of the Scottish Rite Temple, there was an army of volunteers with written instructions, hard at work doing everything from peeling potatoes to mixing ingredients for the annual fest.
If we were a primitive society, it would best be compared to the tribal festival, revolving around the campfire, where stories are told and relationships are nurtured, all for the benefit of the community. On the actual serving day, the volunteers work from dawn into the night preparing, serving, and cleaning up in order to generate funds for the community service provided year 'round by The Beacon.
Like a lighthouse, the good spreads throughout Bourbon County. Beyond the services of The Beacon, people from all walks of life come together to help others and, in doing so, strengthen the entire community.
