Lawrence G. Harper, age 66, of Nevada, Mo., passed away on Friday, March 3, 2006, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born on April 10, 1939, in Nevada to Jessie Lee Harper and Alta Ellen Hogan Harper. On July 21, 1970, he was married in Nowata, Okla., to Shelia Miller and she survives of the home.

Lawrence grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1957. He had made Nevada his home all his life. He worked as a self-employed logger all of his working life, and he retired in 2002 due to his illness. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to his family.

In addition to his wife Shelia of the home, he is survived by four sons, Lawrence Dirk Scotten and his wife Debbie, Nevada, Lawrence Gregg Harper and his wife Marla, Moundville, Matthew Allen Harper and Douglas Earl Harper, both of Nevada; three grandsons, Tommy Scotten, Derik Scotten and Karson Harper; one granddaughter, Lauren Harper; one brother, Delton Ray Harper, Independence, Mo.; six sisters, Mel Schiefer of Iowa, Lucreta Scism, Nevada, Glenda Emmett of California, Robin Scism of Nevada, Catherine Harper of Independence, Mo., and Mary Harper of Blue Springs, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Jessie Winters, one brother, Lonnie Harper, one daughter, Wendy Ellen Harper, and a nephew, Tony Davis.

Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m., on today, March 7, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, with Ray Dean Scism officiating. Cremation will followed. The family received friends from 7-8 p.m., on Monday at the funeral home.
