Illegal immigrants spark local concern

Dear editor:

Recently, the Vernon County Sheriff's Department arrested illegal Mexicans. The border disgrace has now reached Vernon County.

My question is "what has happened that all illegal Mexicans and others who cross the border illegally are not arrested and deported for violations of American immigration laws?" Is not entering the country illegally a crime? Why do local authorities need to wait for illegals to commit a crime to be arrested?

Where is Congress and President Bush? What kind of madness is upon them? Why are they not securing the border and deporting all illegals? Why is not America first?

It would appear that in their eyes the people of Iraq and Mexico are more important than the people of America, Vernon County, who elected them to protect our borders and communities.

It is like this. When Nevadans go to a high school basketball game, do they root for the other team or Nevada? Perhaps this illustration will help President Bush and Congress to see how to think on illegal immigration:

Suppose a few million Americans crossed the southern border sans visas or any legal documentation to be there. Once there, they demand free medical care. They enroll their children in Mexican schools demanding that they be taught in English. They expect doctors, nurses, teachers, police, and government officials to speak and understand English. No attempt is made to learn Spanish. Also, they demand Mexican driver's licenses so that they can give the appearance of legality and get other benefits. Up to 45 persons are packed into a house disregarding all respect for the neighborhood and decency. Imagine the American Army crosses into Mexico countless times to support drug traffic. They also cry racial discrimination when Mexicans and Mexican government officials want to have Mexican immigration laws enforced. When water and food are not given to them, in the hot desert they are illegally crossing, they cry "hate crime." The Mexican Civil Liberties Union goes to their rescue.

The world is outraged at the audacity of these millions of illegal Americans descending upon Mexico bankrupting its government services, letting our Army enter its sovereign land, offending its people by crime, causing taxes to be raised, and reducing services to them to be given to Americans.

Further, the Mexican government would not put up with such nonsense and would not demonstrate such irrational thinking found in President Bush and Congress. They would welcome volunteers to help protect their border.

It is time American leaders become true Americans on this issue in the likes of Andrew Jackson, General Pershing, and the brave at Alamo.

A few pro-American Congressmen are trying to do something for America and Vernon County. I support the bill in the U.S. House titled, "True Enforcement and Border Security Act of 2006" and encourage its support. It will help us. It will require the President to enforce immigration laws.

Two former Presidents put America first by deporting illegal Mexicans. President Hoover in 1931 and in 1954 President Eisenhower deported 1. 3 million Mexicans.

Let's help President Bush join these former Presidents. We need the third deportation to happen and borders sealed NOW. This House bill is the best out there. Support it. Your children will thank you.

Respectfully,

Thanks for extravagant gesture

Dear editor:

I recently called 3M and the human resource department hoping they might consider some kind of donation in our endeavor to love "extravagantly" one of the missionary families we support at living hope fellowship. specifically, Lynn and Alice Young in the Philippines.

This is in response to a message we believe God is teaching us about loving beyond "the norm" or what is "acceptable," to loving God and each other the way he loved us, extravagantly.

My response to their donation is simply, wow!!! I can only describe it as an example of extravagance. a huge thanks to Jeff Horacek of the human resources department and to 3M.

Thank you and God bless you!

I also thank you on behalf of Lynn and Alice Young and all the many people who will benefit from this extravagant donation.

Learning to love extravagantly,

-- Pastor Marty Compton
