Vernon County is the spot for history buffs
Nevada, Mo. -- The marketing technique utilized by the Nevada Chamber of Commerce advertises Nevada as genuine, dynamic, unique and affordable.
Recently, the Missouri Division of Tourism released their latest tourism attractions in Missouri, with a focus on the historical side of Missouri and its impact on the economic development of the nation.
"Across the state some 300 historic districts, all listed on the national register of historic places allows visitors to see, touch and walk around the state's history." said tourism officials in a press release.
Vernon County is an area of abundant recreational and entertainment options that are readily available to tourists and natives as well as easily accessible. From golf courses to water activities mostly everything is said to be within an hours drive. These are all the different ways in which the Nevada/Vernon County Area Chamber of Commerce describes Nevada and the surrounding area.
Tourism to Vernon County is likely to rise due to the upcoming vacation months as well as the upcoming projects that local business are planning on instituting.
For instance, the Civil War Heritage Foundation's western leg of the "Gray Ghosts" historical trail system that is expected to run throughout the state is slated to open May 20. The western leg will describe the Civil War-related events that took place in Vernon County and the surrounding areas, of interest to those interested in the Civil War and the battles and unrest on the western border
The chamber of commerce answers many of the questions that are on prospective tourists minds when they enter the county, what is there to do?
What is there to see? And how far is it?
"First, some of the activities are very different in nature than may be common in many areas. Second, virtually all activities are easily accessible and affordable. Third, local residents simply have much more time with a greater sense of security to participate in whatever endeavors interest them," said chamber representatives.
The chamber includes some interesting tidbits regarding tourism to the area on its Web site, featuring some information on the courthouse square and central business district.
"Perhaps nothing fills the storehouse of historical nostalgia like the courthouse Square where children cavorted on fair-weather lawns and old men rested with their memories. Many such squares in Missouri have merited historic district status, preserving that idyllic past and displaying a surprising degree of individuality." said the Missouri Division of tourism.
Accordingly, there are 300 to visit Missouri, from Ozark hamlets to suburban greenery, from French trading posts to Victorian mansions to tidy bungalows, from rustic villages to urban African American enclaves, from railroad boomtowns to Depression recovery projects.
The state's 330 national historic districts are tangible and engaging reasons to visit Missouri, said the division of tourism.
Nevada's chamber officials said, "We have truly become the hub for recreational, educational, medical and industrial growth for our region."
