Parent information night slated for April 3

Wednesday, March 29, 2006
Kindergartners-to-be will get a chance to experience riding a school bus during P.I.N.K. night at Bryan Elementary School in Nevada.

Parents of children who will be 5 years old on or before July 31, 2006, are asked to "Think P.I.N.K." and attend Parent Information Night for Kindergarten 2006-'07 at Bryan School on Monday, April 3, at 7 p.m.

The Nevada Parents As Teachers Program and Bryan School will be hosting an open house and information night for parents and their "kindergartners-to-be," said Bryan Principal Debbie Spaur.

The children will visit kindergarten classrooms, enjoy special school activities and be treated to a school bus ride. Parents will receive information regarding screening, immunization requirements, kindergarten goals and objectives and enrollment packets.

Enrollment information may be completed at home and returned to Bryan School, April 4-7, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Along with the enrollment form, parents should also bring their child's state birth certificate, immunization records, and two proofs of residency, such as a telephone bill or rent receipt.

Children do not need to be present. Appointments for kindergarten screening will be included as part of the enrollment process. Screening will be held April 18-20 at the First Baptist Church, 305 E. Highland.

During the screening, children will receive a free educational inventory measuring cognitive skills, language development and motor ability.

A general health screening will also be included which will cover speech, vision and hearing. Parents will be provided with the results of the assessment and will be given strategies to help their children get ready for kindergarten. Parents of children ages 3-5 who will not be attending kindergarten are also encouraged to have their children screened. Preschoolers will be screened with an educational inventory similar to the kindergarten assessment. Results and learning strategies will also be shared with parents.

Appointments may be made by calling the Parents As Teachers office at (417) 448-2061 Tuesday through Friday, April 4-8. Screening is a prerequisite for participation in any of the R-5 Preschools.
