Missouri Pacific cut forces
The demoralizing effect of the coal strike made its first impression today by the retrenchment order of the Missouri Pacific railway.
As the business of the Joplin division is to a large extent in hauling coal from the mines to market, the closing of the mines has caused the temporary dismissal of a large number of Nevada railway men.
Fifty-one breakemen were today laid off until business resumes its normal condition. Six engine crews were also taken off with a probability of more to follow.

Airman injured in accident this morning
Staff Sergeant Donald Lee Richards, 22, Peculiar, Mo., an airman stationed at the Grandview Air Force Base, was admitted to the Nevada Hospital today for treatment of injuries received in a one car accident south of Horton on U.S. Highway 71.
Sgt. Tom Loy of the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Richards, with his wife and two small daughters, was traveling north on the highway when one of the children started to fall from the seat. Richards grabbed for the child and his car went off the road on the west side and traveled 330 feet on the shoulder before overturning. Richards was pinned inside the car and suffered severe contusions and lacerations of the scalp and chin, face, forearm and shoulder.
Mrs. Richards and two children Susan Ann, 3 and Deborah Lynn, 11 months, were given emergency treatment at the hospital for lesser injuries.
