Mrs. Rose defeats habeas corpus case
The habeas corpus proceedings brought before the county court by W.M. Rose for the custody of William and Edna Rose, were dismissed, the judges of the county court holing that they have no jurisdiction over the case. Attorneys L.L. Scott and J.R. Moss appeared for the mother of the two children and argued to the members of the county court that the custody of the two little children was a matter now in the circuit court, Mrs. Rose having sued for divorce and the custody of the children. W.M. Rose was represented by attorneys M.T. January and J.M. Hull.
The Rose family has been in court several times. Mrs. Rose has now a divorce suit in court, and at the recent term of the circuit court Rose was convicted and fined for assaulting his wife. Mrs. Rose alleges that Rose in an habitual drunkard and the two little children should not be given to him but should remain with her. She seems to be greatly attached to the little ones and no more pathetic scene was ever witnessed in the county court room that was this morning.

Hunt for reporter's attacker
NEW YORK -- The FBI and other federal and local agencies today pressed a hunt for the unidentified young man who threw sulfuric acid into the eyes of crusading labor columnist Victor Riesel. Rewards totaling $14,500 have been offered.
The latest word on Riesel's eyesight came from Dr. Geralimo Bonaccolto, chief eye surgeon at St. Clare Hospital.
"The diagnosis is guarded. We will not know for one week. He can see now. He has vision now. He can make out objects and light. It will take, however, about one week before we can tell what the results will be to his vision. Both eyes are damaged, perhaps the right eye more than the left. It is quite serious, but I have hope for the best."
