Nevada competes in Paola, Kan. track meet

PAOLA, Kan. -- The Nevada Tiger varsity track teams traveled across state lines for a meet in Kansas Friday. The boys finished fourth and the girls sixth.

Spring Hill won the boys' meet, while Iola won the girls' contest.

Nevada had two winners in the meet, as Tyler Werner won the boys' pole vault by clearing 12 feet, and the boys' 3,200 meter relay team also finished first.

The relay team of Mason Benn, Curtiss Davis, Mark Reed and Trevor Hinkle finished in a time of 8 minutes, 36.20 seconds.

The boys' 1,600 relay team of Blake Sanderson, Thorne Penrod, Reed and Benn took second.

Also finishing second were Nathan Gragg in the boys' high jump, Reed in the 800, Taylor Means in the girls' 200 and Amanda Wilson in the girls' discus.

Jordan Webb finished right behind Wilson, taking third in the discus. Molly Ferree was third in the girls' high jump and Jacob Cherry third in the boys' triple jump.

Six athletes placed fourth for the Tigers: Means in the 100; Sanderson in the boys' 400; Dan Lovinger in the boys' 300 hurdles; Cassie Driskel in the girls' pole vault; Ronnie Herda in the boys' discus and Wilson in the girls' shot put.

Other who placed in the top seven in their events were: Hinkle in the boys' 3,200; Erica Becker in the girls' 100 hurdles; Lovinger in the boys' 110 hurdles; Katelyn Brier in the girls' 100 and 200; Benn in the boys' 1,600; Sanderson and Penrod in the boys' 200.
