A new tornado season
HUTCHISON, Kan. -- Two women were severely injured in a cyclone which passed over Stafford at 5:30 p.m., yesterday. The Quaker church was demolished and six dwellings were blown down in addition to a number of barns and other outbuildings, both in town and to the northwest in the country.
No one was killed, but several narrow escapes from flying timbers are reported. The corner was blown off a hotel building on Main street. The storm seemed to start a short distance southwest of the city and its path was very narrow. It is thought that it traveled but a short distance.
Mrs. Ed Gleiburg saw the storm coming and ran into the yard to rescue her child, which was playing there. Before she reached him she was picked up a hurled against a telephone pole across the street. She was seriously injured in the back. The child was unhurt.
