Carrie Janice Lawson, 68, Milo, Mo., died Saturday, April 29, 2006, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada, Mo., following a lengthy illness. She was born Nov. 6, 1937, in Orlando, Okla., to William Burton Cooper and Ruth Lois Rudd Cooper. She married Charles Howard Lawson on June 30, 1956, in Nevada, and he survives of the home.

Carrie was a graduate of Richard's High School in 1955. She received her nursing degree from Fort Scott Community College, Fort Scott, Kan. Carrie worked at the Nevada Habilitation Center for 34 years, retiring in 1992. Following her retirement there, she worked at Nevada City Hospital and Moore-Few Care Center until her retirement. She came to Vernon County with her family at a young age from Oklahoma. She loved to fish and hunt. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Nevada.

Survivors in addition to her husband Charles Howard Lawson of the home include one son, Charles Anthony Lawson, Lee's Summit, Mo.; one daughter, Ruth Drake, Iola, Kan.; two brothers, Tom Cooper, Richards, Mo., Herb Cooper, Fall River, Kan.; one sister, Lois Houston, Richards, Mo.; six grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant daughters, Margaret and Julie Ann; one brother, Jay Cooper; and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, May 4, at Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Fort Scott, with Father Darrin May celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Scott.

Rosary services will be held at 6:30 p.m., on Wednesday, May 3, with visitation following from 7-8 p.m., at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
