Nevada, Mo. -- Dan Keller practices with the new direct recording electronic voting equipment that Vernon County Clerk Tammi Beach just received. "We're going to hold a session where everyone interested can come and learn about the new machines," Beach said. "It's not just for someone who is blind but also for those who might have trouble holding a pencil." Beach said the session would be after normal hours in the courthouse. "We'll hold it from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3," Beach said. The new equipment will be available at each of the Vernon County polling places for the election Aug. 8. The new machines cost $4,500 each. "They cost $85,500, for all of them," Beach said. "That's one for each of the 16 polling places so each one cost $4,500."
