Steve was born and reared in southwest Kansas. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 until 1962. He made his living in a variety of self-employment areas including electrical contracting, a service station and farming. He later worked for a number of years in a maintenance supervisory capacity in the printing business and finally as a cattleman in Vernon County. He was a member of the Cape Fear Baptist Church in North Carolina, a Mason and an avid team roper.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Wydene, include two sons, Dennis Garr, Springdale, Ark., Bill Garr, Lamar, Mo.; one daughter, Cathy Cain, St. Pauls, N.C.; five grandsons; one great-grandson, nurnerous step-children, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Jo Garr.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., on Friday, Aug. 11, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Kent Rodgers officiating. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
