Nevada Speedway report -- August 5

Track Reporter
The Show Me Racing Series visited Nevada Speedway Saturday, with a field of over 30 Late Models from Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas all competing for the $1,000 prize money. Prior to the start of the Feature, all drivers were introduced to the crowd, then they drove four-wide around the track before forming up to their starting positions. The local points battle is still going strong. In the Late Model division Jack Simmons holds a 20-point lead over Donnie Timmerman, and in the Modified division Kevin Morrow holds a 30-point lead over Craig Wood. Next week the Midwest Outlaw Lightening Sprints will return to run along with our regular card of races. And kids, tune up the bikes because the annual bike race will be held in two weeks. The racing is always exciting at Nevada Speedway and you never know what will happen.
Show Me Racing Series Late Model heat race winners were Mike Maddison, Lamar; Leslie Essary, Crane; Ken Essary, Cape Fair and Blane Reed, Crane. In the first B-Feature Chad Smith captured the win and moved to the A-Feature along with Bill Humble. The second B-Feature saw Jeremy Manes take the win and move to the back of the A-Feature, along with Conner Ward. Jordan Holloway got the lead at the start of the Feature. A yellow flew as Tyler Milner hit the wall. Their restarts had the leader alone on the first row and the balance of the field in two rows behind him. This closed the field behind Holloway for the restart. Mark Bourey brought out another yellow flag as he got into the wall. Holloway was in the lead for the restart. This time Jarrod Hilton got a good jump and gained the lead and was leaving the field behind when he caught the cars of Jeremy Kelley and Kenny Hartwigsen. As he was attempting to pass them they spun and he had to dodge his way through. This brought out the yellow and closed the field behind Hilton for the restart. Hilton again built up a good lead and took the win, the trophy, and the all important $1,000 check.
Modified heat race winners were Rusty Skaggs, Fort Scott, Kan., and Bob Kerbs, Nevada. Skaggs got the lead at the start of the Feature. Jack Simmons spun, bringing out the yellow flag and closing the field behind Skaggs for the restart. Another yellow flew as Dale Douty Jr., Ron McClellan and Brent Bollinger all spun. Again the field closed behind Skaggs for the restart. Skaggs led start to finish to claim the win, his second of the season.
Street Stock heat race winners were Zach Marsh, Fort Scott, Kan., and Doug Chrisenbery, Bronaugh. Zach Marsh gained the lead at the start of the Feature, led all the way through and captured his second win of the season.
Factory Stock heat race winners were Tiny Joles, Fort Scott, Kan., and Mark Selsor, Nevada. Joles jumped into the lead at the start of the Feature. This was erased as Selsor and Shawn Hendren tangled and spun. An original lineup restart was called. Joles again got the lead. Joey Davenport and Darren Dennison got together, resulting in Dennison sitting sideways on the track and a yellow flag. This closed the field behind Joles for the restart. Chris Hendren, Davenport and Jennifer Null got together, resulting in Hendren pulling into the infield. Joles again led the field to the green flag, maintained the lead and captured his third win of the season, which moved him into fifth place in the points standings.
Mini Stock heat race winners were Matt Rose, Liberal, and Robert Somers Jr., Nevada. Rose jumped into the lead at the start of the Feature with Somers right on his bumper. As they came up on slower cars, Somers was able to gain the lead. A yellow flag flew as Warren Highley was sent spinning and he lost a bumper in the track. This closed the field behind Somers for the restart. Somers went high in the corner just as the white flag was about to fly allowing Rose to regain the lead. Rose captured his 10th win of the season.
