Hays, Eagles blast 'Hawks

MOUND CITY, Kan. -- Uniontown opened the Three Rivers League portion of its schedule with a six-touchdown night from senior quarterback Chad Hays, as the Eagles blasted Jayhawk-Linn, 44-8, at Donald L. Hoppes Field Friday.

Hays passed for Uniontown's first three touchdowns and ran for the next three. Uniontown, 4-0 overall, led 38-0 at halftime.

The three TD passes all came in the first quarter. The first was 41 yards to Brandon Boyd. The second was 21 yards to Drew Johnson. The third was 23 yards to Gage McKinnis. Luke Spainhoward's kicks on the first two PAT's were successful, making it 20-0.

Hays then ran in from 26, 65 and one yard in the second quarter. McKinnis added a 65-yard run in the third for Uniontown's final tally.

Jayhawk-Linn's only score came on a fourth-quarter touchdown pass of 16 yards from Derek Endecott to Clint Johnson. Ryan Northcutt scored the two-point conversion.

The normally-explosive Johnson was held to 19 yards rushing on 13 carries by the Eagle defense, which allowed only 140 total yards. Endecott completed nine of 16 passes for 81 yards. Northcutt caught three of them for 34 yards and Josh Beckman caught three for 17.

Hays completed six of seven passes for 141 yards and also rushed for 127 yards on 11 carries. McKinnis had 83 yards on six rushes and two receptions for 45 yards.

Uniontown had 375 total yards as the Eagles rushed 27 times for 234 yards.

Shawn Pritchett led the Uniontown defense with seven tackles while Jamie Shelton had six and a fumble recovery. Blake Snyder had eight tackles for the Jayhawks and Josh Jackson recorded seven.

The Jayhawks concluded their league slate with a 1-2 record. They are 1-3 overall.

Uniontown hosts Baxter Springs Friday night in its Homecoming game. The Lions scored a 35-13 win over Frontenac Friday night.

Jayhawk-Linn travels to Drexel, Mo., Friday to take on the Dragons.
