100 years ago

Accident in the country

Dr. S.W. Love, the Walker physician, who was a Wednesday visitor to Nevada, reports the following accidents in his neighborhood:

Mrs. James Dunaway, who resides six miles east of Walker, narrowly escaped serious injury in a runaway accident on Monday. The tongue of the buggy in which she was riding became detached throwing Mrs. Dunaway under the horses. She was badly bruised all over the body, and her right arm was broken just above the wrist. She is getting along as well as could be expected.

Charles Scott, residing one mile east of Green Springs, met with an accident on Tuesday afternoon. He was putting some shingles on his barn when the scaffold broke, Mr. Scott falling a long distance of 14 feet, an causing concussion of the brain. He was unconscious for several hours but is now improving.

Miss Homes is named head of A.A.U.W. branch

Miss Nellie Homes, Cottey College librarian, has been appointed president of the Nevada branch of the American Association of University Women, filling out the un-expired term of Mrs. Leonard Brown, former Nevadan now living in Pittsburg, Kan. Miss Homes has been serving as first vice-president of the branch.

Announcement of Miss Homes appointment was made last night at a dinner meeting at B.I.L. Lodge attended by 62 members and guests of the Nevada branch.

Dr. Blanche H. Dow, president of Cottey College, described highlights of the August conference of the International Federation of University Women which she attended in Paris.
