PARSONS, Kan. -- Erin Zingre and Jill Query finished third for Fort Scott High School at the Labette County Tennis Invitational Thursday.

Zingre and Query were 2-2 on the day in No. 1 doubles and stand at 8-13 on the season. They lost their first match, 8-6, to Brandie Eades and Kelsie Froebe of Independence. In the second match, they defeated Sierra Foster and Amanda Barrnett of the LCHS Gold team, 8-3. They lost to Columbus' Maddie Overman and Jordan Allen, 8-7 (7-4), before defeating Marissa Blevins and Torie Butts of the LCHS varsity, 8-2.

"Erin and Jill started to play more the way we know they are capable of playing," Fort Scott head coach Lynn Barr said. "Both of the matches they lost could have easily gone the other way. They are beginning to eliminate some of those errors that are hurting them. We will really be counting on them to have a good showing for us Monday at the SEK Tournament."

Nicole Bastyr placed fourth in No. 1 singles. She lost to Katie Porter of Independence, 8-1, before getting her only win of the day, an 8-3 verdict over Kyla Smith of LCHS Gold. She lost in a tie-breaker to Malarie Mosler of Columbus, 8-7 (8-6), and fell to Karen Mowder of the LCHS varsity, 8-0.

Bastyr has won four of her last nine matches over the Tigers' last three outings in improving her record to 5-16 on the season.

"Nicole's match against Columbus was a great match to watch with many long rallies as both girls did a good job of keeping the ball in play," Barr said. "Unfortunately, we will have to play without Nicole from now on as her family has decided to move away this weekend. We will miss her as she was an important part of our team this season and did a lot to help us."

Carly Hyer was 0-4 in No. 2 singles. She fell to Kelsey Mayse of Independence, 8-0, Arissa Utemack of LCHS Gold, 8-1, Shayla Guinn of Columbus, 8-1, and Amy Garrett of the LCHS varsity, 8-0.

Megan Anglin and Molly Karleskint went 0-4 in No. 2 doubles. They lost to Bayley Conner and Biloxi Mangan of Independence, 8-1, Carly Spooner and Addy Miller of LCHS Gold, 8-4, Jordan Jameson and Bobbi Shanks of Columbus in a long tie-breaker, 8-7 (12-10), and Alahna Broadway and Nicole Stringer of the LCHS varsity, 8-2.

The Tigers will be back in Parsons Monday for the Southeast Kansas League Tournament. Next Thursday, they will be in Independence for the Class 4A Regional Tournament.
