Ruby Alma Smith, 89, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo. She was born Nov. 10, 1916, in Vernon County, Mo., to Harry Lloyd Carpenter and Jessie Marcella Welty Carpenter.
Ruby lived her whole life in Vernon County. She had worked for 17 years for the Nevada State Hospital until her retirement. She was the bingo co-ordinator for Seneca, Okla., bingo bus trip.
Survivors include one son, Jack Smith and his wife Donna, Branson, Mo.; one daughter, Jill Couch, Moundville, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don Carpenter, Arma, Kan., and Harold Carpenter, Nevada. She was preceded in death by one son, Bill Smith and his wife Sharyl; one grandson, Ronnie Smith; three brothers, Floyd Carpenter, George Carpenter, and Bill Carpenter.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Shiloh Cemetery, Barton County, Mo.
