Evelyn M. Wallace, 90, Nevada, Mo., formerly of Walker, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born Aug. 11, 1916, in Walker, to Richard Balk and Kate Adams Balk. She married Orville Ray Wallace on Dec. 25, 1935, in Nevada. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2004.
Mrs. Wallace grew up in Walker and attended country schools in the Walker area. She worked as a cook at Walker School for 35 years. She also worked hand in hand with her husband, Orville, on the family farm for many years. Evelyn was a member of the Berea Christian Church, Ketterman, Mo.
Survivors include one son, Richard O. Wallace, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Kelly, Alaska; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, John Balk, Walter Balk, Melvin Balk and Wesley Balk.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Tim Brewer officiating. Interment will follow in Berea Cemetery, Ketterman, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends from 1-2 p.m., Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
