Soroptimist International of Nevada in partnership with the Nevada/Vernon County Area Chamber of Commerce will host "Insight & Issues 2006: A Voter Forum" Thursday, Oct. 19, at 5:30 p.m., at The Fox Playhouse, 100 S. Main, in Nevada. The event is free and open to the public.

Candidates for the offices of state representative in the 125th District, Vernon County associate circuit judge and Vernon County presiding commissioner will be present. Pro and con speakers representing four statewide coalitions will also respond to questions on proposed Amendment Two (Missouri stem cell initiative) and Amendment Three (Missouri tobacco tax).

Nancy Kerbs of Cottey College, coordinator of institutional research, will serve as forum moderator. Cottey College student newspaper staff members will act as time keepers.

The forum will be conducted in a round robin format. Each candidate or speaker will be allowed two minutes to provide opening remarks, one minute to respond to each question, and two-minutes for closing remarks.

Time limits will be strictly enforced.

All questions will be solicited from the candidates/speakers and the community in advance, reviewed by the forum committee and drawn randomly. No questions from the audience will be accepted. Interested citizens may forward questions to "voter forum," 225 W. Austin, Nevada, MO 64772, Fax: (417) 667-3492, or e-mail: events@nevada-mo.com .

Sample voting ballots, provided by the Vernon County Clerk's office, also will be distributed at the door and local CCPA volunteers will operate the concession stand.

Campaign and political literature or solicitations will not be allowed.
