Jeanne Board took three paintings to an art show in early October. She took home four awards, a white, a red, a blue and a Best of Show.

"They only allow you to bring three paintings, so I was pleased that all of them won awards," Board said.

Board's winning painting, "Coral Bells," won first place in oils and the Best of Show ribbon.

Board, a founding member of the Vernon County Arts Council, entered the paintings in the Harrisonville Fine Art Show last week, its 17th year, put on by the Harrisonville Fine Art Association.

Board can't say how many paintings she has done, but the number is considerable.

"They say you should take a picture of each one you do," Board said. "But they only said that a few years ago so there are some that have slipped through."

Board's paintings are popular with many in private collections.

"My paintings are in people's collections all over the country," Board said.

The entries were judged by Dell Godbold, an artist who graduated from Wichita University with a degree in fine arts and who studied at the Kansas City Art Institute, the Scottsdale Artist School and was a Plein Air Painter in Bennington Vermont.

Board always has been artistic and started early in life.

"I'd say I've been painting for 50 to 55 years," Board said

Board said her paintings are on view at the Vernon County Arts Council gallery in the Carnegie Building as well as at the Wall Street Art Gallery in Fort Scott, Kan.

Coming up for Board is the Greater Kansas City Art Association Blue Ribbon Show, where artists like Board who have won blue ribbons in events put on by the association are brought together and exhibited. The show will be from Nov. 2 to 29 at the Rice Gallery, 135 Old Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan.
