Fire at Walker this morning

The erstwhile quiet and peaceful town of Walker has experienced strenuous times this week and the people of that village and vicinity are somewhat aroused. Tuesday morning the Walker bank was robbed of $1,200, the big safe blown open and the building shattered and before the citizens had recovered from the excitement occasioned by that lawless act they were thrown in a state of panic by a disastrous fire which visited their town this morning. Three brick store buildings the very best in Walker and several stock goods, are now but a mass of smoldering ruins and charred remnants and several firms are now doing no business, including the Walker bank.

Birds are kwaziest 'people'

There's a Redbird hanging around the household of Mr. and Mrs. K.F. Ueberrhein, that is really seeing red.

Mrs. Ueberrhein said Saturday the Redbird has been having fits at her place for the past three days. She said the Redbirds are fond of the color red and the storm windows on the house are trimmed in red. The bird was attracted to the windows by the color and it evidently saw its reflection in the glass and thought it was another bird. Every time it zooms near the window it tries to peck the "other bird" in the glass.

Mrs. Ueberrhein said old Red was still at it Saturday and she is beginning to wonder just when the bird will wizen up.
