Sheldon, Hume split basketball doubleheader

The Hume Hornets and Sheldon Panthers split a boys-girls basketball doubleheader Thursday.

The Hornets (4-0) won the boys' contest, getting five players in double figures for a 78-59 victory.

Clinton Irwin led the way offensively, scoring 22 for Hume. Irwin also grabbed 12 rebounds.

Cameron Hinton scored 18, Ryan Austin 14, Zach Terry 12 and Wyatt Hale 10 for the Hornets.

Cody Gardener led Sheldon with 18 points.

The Lady Panthers beat the Lady Hornets 55-34 as Hume (1-3) lost Leana Brooks to fouls in the third quarter and had to play 4-on-5 the rest of the way.

Brooks scored 17 points to lead Hume while Katie Orear scored 10. Sheldon's scoring and record was unavailable.
