Verna Leona Griggs

Verna Leona Griggs, 98, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at Christian Health Care, Nevada. She was born Feb. 13, 1908, in Bridgeport, Kan., to Frank Victor Falen and Emilie Josephine Marie Johnson Falen. She married Russell William Griggs on July 18, 1946, in Lindsborg, Kan., at the Covenant Church. He preceded her in death.

As a young girl, Verna and her family moved to Lindsborg. She attended Bethany College and received her Batchelor of Arts degree in 1932. She was employed at Schilling Airbase, then later at a tent and awning company, both in Salina, Kan. Following her marriage, she and her husband lived in Salina, and then bought a farm and moved to Nevada, in 1947. She was a homemaker, mother, and a dedicated Christian. Years later they moved to Kansas, for awhile, and then moved back to Nevada where she lived until her death.

Survivors include two sons, Blaine Griggs and his wife, Debbie, Faylon Griggs and his wife, Cheryel, all of Nevada; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Tucker, Bedford, Ind., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Pentecostal Assembly, Nevada, with Shelby Brandt officiating. Interment will follow in Marvin Chapel Cemetery, Vernon County, Mo. Friends may call now and until noon on Wednesday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
