Suspend two seniors for 'Mohawk' haircuts

Nevada High School principal Garland Keithly this morning suspended two senior boys from school until Monday for attending classes with "Mohawk" type haircuts.

The two, Sam Carter and Gary Hall, had their hair cut in a fashion which left just a strip of hair down the middle of their scalps.

Mr. Keithly said it is not the school's policy to tell students what to wear or how to get their hair cut but said disciplinary action is necessary when students come attired in clothes or have haircuts which cause disturbances in classes or tends to disrupt discipline.

Mr. Keithly said the boys were instructed to get their hair in proper trim by Monday. He added that the boys' appearance this morning caused considerable disruption at school.
