As a singer-songwriter raised in Virginia, now based out of Texas, Kurt South's eclectic style and crafty song writing have recently been gaining him much attention. Promoters say that listeners -- young, old, hippie and redneck, rockers and more -- all get what he is doing with his raw and honest sound. South's music travels from country to rock, to blues to folk and beyond.

"Music is one of the only things that can get people on the same page, and bring them together. I really enjoy seeing all of the many different faces in my audiences," South said.

South's rise to fame has not been an easy one. A bittersweet experience with his successful debut album and shady distributors almost put him out of business permanently, but determination and love of music prevailed. Influenced by writers like John Hiatt and Guy Clark, South's music is referred to by some as Americana or alt-country. South has released three CDs -- his recently acquired "Loaded "debut, "Seven Songs" and the full-length "River City Blues," produced in 2006.

South will perform at Great Oaks Restaurant and Lounge, on U.S. Highway 54 west, El Dorado Springs, on Friday, March 23, for a public show at no charge. Call (417) 876-2211 after 4 p.m., for more information.
