Nevada High School Show Choirs are one step closer to making an appearance at both the FAME World Cup Invitational and the FAME Show Choir Invitational. Both competitions are slated for April. The Soundsational Singers have been invited to compete in the World Cup Competition on April 14, and the Treble Effects have been invited to the Show Choir Invitational the following weekend.

The final preparations are being made for these competitions. Vocals and dance moves are being polished and the students are excited about representing their school and community in what has become a national event.

As a thank you to the community, the show choirs will be presenting a Dollar Show Saturday, at 7 p.m. at the Nevada High School auditorium. For an admission of $1, the community will be able to preview the entire shows of both show choirs, as well as listen to the NHS Jazz Band and watch a special performance of the Nevada Middle School Eighth Grade Select Choir. The normal price of admission to a show choir competition varies anywhere from $5 to $25 per person. This is an opportunity for families and friends of show choir students to be able to see what our choirs can do for significantly less money than a regular competition. It will be a great evening of entertainment for all.

The FAME Competitions do not come without a cost to the choirs. Currently, both choirs fund-raise for their costumes and various show choir accoutrements. The FAME Competitions require a whole new set of fund-raising. Fortunately, there are a few outstanding community members who have generously donated their time and talents so that the competitions can become a reality.

Local quilt artist Ann Jones has donated a beautiful quilt as a drawing item donated specifically for this competition. The quilt is absolutely amazing and has already been showcased at a few select activities. Community members who have had the opportunity to see this talented artist's creations can attest to the quality and creativity of her quilts. It will be on display at the Dollar Show and tickets will be sold for $1 each or 6 for $5.

Tedd Maxfield, our local YMCA director and friendly supporter of the show choir has offered a hot air balloon ride. The students have been selling tickets for this event at $1 each or 6 for $5. Winners must be at least 12 years old. The winner will be taken on a scenic balloon ride around Nevada. Maxfield and other balloon enthusiasts have graced the skies over the area for several years now, and this is an exciting opportunity for community members to experience.

The Nevada High School Show Choirs wish to thank Mrs. Jones and Mr. Maxfield for their incredible spirit and generosity. These two fund-raisers are what will fund the costs associated with the FAME Competitions. Without the funding, neither group will be able to compete next month.

Once again, the Nevada High School Show Choirs wished to invite the entire community to the Dollar Show this Saturday, at 7 p.m., in the NHS auditorium, It promises to be night of great entertainment along with the chance to purchase a ticket for a beautiful quilt or an adventurous balloon ride.
