George W. Schmitz, age 84, of Denver, Colo., died at his home on April 9, 2007. He was born Oct. 16, 1922, in LaSalle, Ill. During World War II he served in the U.S. Marines in Europe. After the war, he settled in Denver where he spent 40 years working at the phone company, Mountain Bell.

George is survived by his brother, Frank Schmitz and his wife, Donna of Askum, Ill.; two daughters, Linda Schmitz, Nevada, and Charlene Spillman and her husband, Steve of Republic, Kan.; one son, Steve Horning and his wife, Fran of Independence, Mo.; 10 grandchildren,; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother and a son, Stuart Horning.

Cremation was done in Denver. Mr. Schmitz requested no services be held.
