Tiger tennis falls to Joplin

NEVADA, Mo. -- The Nevada Tigers took one match and were close in a number of others against a very good Joplin tennis team Monday. Joplin still won 8-1.

Taylor Chapman beat Cody Maples at No. 4 singles, 9-7, for Nevada's only victory of the day.

The Tigers suffered heartbreaking defeats at No. 1 singles, No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles.

Ryan Kimbrough lost to Chris Ingle at No. 1 singles in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-5).

At No. 3 singles, Devin Ozkal lost to Matt McCreary 9-7.

The same 9-7 score was the difference at No. 2 doubles, with Ozkal and Chapman dropping to McCreary and Maples.

James Smith fell in No. 5 singles, 8-5, in another close match.

Ethan Holmes also lost by an 8-5 count, to Donnie Box in No. 6 singles.

Jake Holmes lost at No. 2 singles to Josh Selbe, 8-1.

Kimbrough and Jake Holmes lost to Ingle and Selbe in No. 1 doubles, 8-5.

Smith and Ethan Holmes fell by an 8-4 margin at No. 3 doubles.

Nevada was scheduled to play in the Southwest Conference Tournament today.
