Hubert Leslie Rothenberger, age 80, of Schell City, Mo., the son of Paul Mark Rothenberger and Irma Ida Westphall Rothenberger, was born May 11, 1927, In Osborne, Kan., and passed away on June 20, 2007, at St. John's hospital in Joplin, Mo.

At an early age, Les along with his family moved to the Green Ridge, Mo., area where he spent his childhood. He attended school at Manila and Green Ridge. There he also found the Lord and was baptized. In the mid 1940s he served In the Merchant Marines. On Aug. 30, 1946, he was united in marriage to Virginia Ann Walters and to this union five children were born. In 1964 he moved his family to Schell City, where he made his home. During his working years Les worked as a heavy equipment operator, school bus driver, and an over the road trucker. After his retirement he enjoyed spending his time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Rothenberger of the home in Schell City; three sons, Paul Leslie "Skip" Rothenberger and his wife, Murlene of Ellsinore, Mo., Micheal Wade Rothenberger of Schell City, and Kendall Ray Rothenberger and his wife, Gail of Prescott, Ark.; two daughters, Vickie Ann Norton of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Constance Joann Davis and her husband, Larry of Schell City; 27 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Dale Rothenberger and his wife, Freda of Gait, Calif.; four sisters, Gladys Miller and her husband, Wilford of Windsor, Mo., Pauline Wilson of California, Mo., Wanda Logan and her husband Ryland, of Sedatia, Mo., and Hazel Stone and her husband, Harry of Booneville, Mo.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Les was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, one granddaughter, one great-great-granddaughter, one son-in-law and one daughter-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 23, at the First Baptist Church in Schell City, with brother Gene Gray officiating. Musical selections will be provided by Paula Gray. Pallbearers are Ronald Logan, Gale Logan, Marvin Logan, Jeff Logan, Steve Young, Jim Young, David Wilson, Eric Wilson, Dan Johnson, Steve Dobson and Joe Wagoner. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Rothenberger II, Tony Hillier, Dwight Norton, Calvin Norton, Darrell Norton, Eric Bryson, Bryon Bryson, Matthew Rothenberger, Joshua Rothenberger, Transon Davis, Jim Rothenberger, Troy Bryson, Shane Rothenberger, Leon Bryson and Toby Bryson. Interment followed at the Antioch Cemetery in Green Ridge, Mo.

Memorials are suggested to the Antioch Cemetery in Green Ridge.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City.
