Frank Crews

Frank Crews, 76, Sheldon, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Freeman Health System West, Joplin, Mo., following a two-year illness. He was born April 18 1931, in Pittsburg, Kan., to Frank Hart Crews and Cordia Florence Downs Crews. He married Loretta Faye Helm on Nov. 22, 1952, in Eureka Springs, Ark., and she survives of the home.

Frank grew up in Nevada and attended Nevada schools. He joined the National Guard at the age of 15 where he spent two years until joining the U.S. Army. He served in the Army for two years and was stationed in Korea before returning home in September 1952. He was awarded an honorary high school diploma in 2001 from Nevada High School by the U.S. Government Program for veterans. Following the service, he lived and worked in Nevada all of his life. He was manager of Stocker's Truck Stop in Nevada for 16 years. He worked for the Nevada Police Department for 10 years (1966-'76). He was a member of the Nevada Masonic Lodge.

Survivors in addition to his wife Loretta, include 10 children, Nicky Crews and his wife Minon, Jasper, Mo., Yvonne Colton and her husband Jim, Hepler, Kan., Ricky Crews and his wife Annette, Sheldon, Cordia Cox and her husband Jerry, Nevada, Robert Crews and his wife Lisa, Nevada, Jimmy Crews and his wife Trudy, Lamar, Larry Crews and his wife Tammy, Nevada, John Crews, Fort Scott, Kan., Candi Colopy, Nevada, and Michael Crews and his wife Dena, Nevada; 31 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Frances Clemenson, Granite City, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, July 7, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Dr. William Cox officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada, with Military Honors. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m., Friday, July 6, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Children's Mercy Hospital, K.C., Mo., in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
