In the railway world

An ordinance recently passed by the city council at Sedalia requiring trains to reduce speed to six mile an hour while passing through the city is causing quite a flurry in that town. The railroads have notified the officers of the fair association that they will not attempt to run shuttle trains to the grounds this year. There is talk that the Missouri Pacific will move their passenger division to Jeff City in retaliation.

50 years ago

Suspend logjam blasts until river rises again

Small blasts of dynamite were set off yesterday in an effort to clean out the channel at the logjam on the Big Osage River. With the work completed yesterday U.S. Army Engineers will return to the site when the Osage River rises to check on the effect of the higher water, in hopes that it will sweep out more of the debris.

The effect of the Tuesday blast was the freer flow of water, however the main body of the logjam remained stationary.
