Wilma Wynona Stong, 89, Nevada, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2007, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, following an illness of 11 years. She was born Jan. 10, 1918, in Coffeyville, Kan. She was the third of the five daughters of Homer Roberts and Eva Smith Roberts.
She was raised in Coffeyville, Kan., graduating in 1935 from Field Kindley High School. She was employed at Columbia Drug Store and the "Roofing Tile." She married Joseph Wayne Stong on March 28, 1937. They moved to Nevada in 1955 when Wayne became the meat market manager of the new Karbe Grocery Store on Austin Street. Wilma was a part-time meat wrapper. They returned to Coffeyville for several years, but moved back to Nevada to be close to two of their children and grandchildren. She has been retired since 1977. Wilma was of Protestant faith.
Survivors include her son James Stong, Nevada; one daughter, Sharon Hacker, Nevada; son, Rick Stong and his wife Sharon, South Coffeyville, Okla.; grandchildren, Tim Stong, and Dusty Stong, Sheldon; Tonia Bowman and her husband Curt; Chris Hacker, Nevada, Shawn Stong, Tulsa, Okla., C. J. Stong, Coffeyvile, Kan.; two great-grandchildren, Brealynn "Hope" Bowman, Nevada, Kundal Marie Stong, South Coffeyville, Okla.; one sister Dorothy Harvey and her husband Doby Coffeyville, Kan.; one sister-in law, Elnora Cullison and her husband Woodrow, Wichita, Kan., along with nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne in 1985, her sisters, Rita Williams and her husband Don, Odessa, Texas, Juanita Green and her husband Bill, and Cecelia Easky and her husband Leno, Ponca City, Okla.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., at Penwell-Gabel's Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 2405 Woodland Ave., Coffeyville, Kan. 67337 on Tuesday, Aug. 14. Visitation will be at Ferry Funeral Home from. 6-7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, and friends may call now and until 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. No home visits are requested please.
