Impatience at the plate and bad luck plagued the Lady Tigers in the Reeds Spring Tournament. The offense struggled as Nevada hitters too often swung at pitches that were out of the strike zone. And, when the Tigers hit the ball hard it was right at the opponents. In the fifth place game Nevada (7-9) outscored Diamond 3-2. Nevada scored all their runs in the first. Katelyn Brier doubled to start the game. Megan Ray's ground out moved Brier to third. Brier scored when Rachel Kennedy singled. Kennedy stole second and then advanced to third as Sabrina Jones rolled out to the shortstop. Dani Stanhope walked and stole second to put runners on second and third with two out. The Diamond infield booted Mary Ann Kenton's sharp grounder to score Kennedy and Stanhope. Nevada fell 4-3 to host Reeds Spring despite outplaying them in most facets of the game in first round play. The Lady Tigers had five hits to Reeds Spring's one. Unfortunately, Nevada stranded eight base runners. Costly mistakes in the bottom of the fifth helped lead to the loss. Two errors and two hit batters allowed Reeds Spring to plate four runs and the Timberwolves held Nevada scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings. Aurora defeated the Tigers 5-0 in the next game. The Tigers aggressiveness at the plate worked against them as many Nevada hitters failed to wait for good pitches to hit.

Brier and Shawna Alkire led Nevada with three hits each in the tournament. Kennedy and Jones followed with two hits apiece. Brier and Ray each scored two runs on the day.

The Lady Tiger pitchers combined for 23 strikeouts. Kennedy fanned 19 while Brier whiffed four in her relief stint against Aurora. Nevada plays Carthage at home Monday at 4:30 p.m. Katelyn Brier and Megan Ray will be honored at Senior Night festivities.
