Wednesday, September 26, 2007

Nevada junior Jessica Harper returns a volley during Tuesday night's match with the Joplin Lady Eagles in Wynn Gymnasium. The Nevada Lady Tigers beat the Joplin Lady Eagles in two straight games Tuesday night. The Tigers dominated the Eagles in game 1 winning 25-5 with the Tigers putting eight unanswered points on the board before the Eagles scored, with another run of 11 straight points later in the game. In game two the Eagles jumped to a 5-1 lead before the Tigers clawed their way back to a 7-7 tie. With neither team able to gain an advantage the lead see-sawed back and forth with 10 ties until the Tigers scored the last three points to win 25-22. The Nevada junior varsity lost to Joplin, 22-25, 27-25, 20-25 and the freshman team lost 12-25, 16-25. "We still need to win a couple of games to be at .500," Nevada head volleyball coach Trudy Fleeman said. On Sept. 22 the Tigers played in the Carl Junction Invitational Tournament, losing to Neosho in the semi-final game. The Tigers currently are 7-9-2 for the season and play the El Dorado Springs Bulldogs on Thursday in El Dorado Springs, a game was originally scheduled to be played in Nevada. The next home match will be Oct. 2, when they host a Southwest Conference game with Carthage. Ralph Pokorny/Daily Mail
