Chimney sweep's job becoming a lost art

Fire was one of man's earliest inventions and once man had fire it wasn't long before he found a way to contain it and draw the smoke away. The problem is that most fuels burn incompletely and leave behind soot and other deposits such as creosote, which is flammable. If these deposits are left long enough they can catch fire, shooting flames and sparks from the chimney, possibly causing fires on adjacent roofs or vegetation. Thus was born the chimney sweep, a profession still in demand, though much less so than 100 years ago.
