FSHS beats Bulldogs for 12th straight time

INDEPENDENCE, Kan. -- Alex Barner started things off with an 89-yard kickoff return for a touchdown here Friday night as Fort Scott High whipped Inde-pendence for the 12th straight time, 55-7, in Southeast Kansas League play.

Luke Halsey scored the next 14 points for the Tigers as he kicked the ensuing extra point, then scored from one-yard out and kicked the PAT, then booted 29- and 25-yard field goals. The second field goal made it a 20-0 game 47 seconds into the second period.

Andre Davis caught two passes for 37 yards, both for scores. The first came on a 16-yarder from Matt Wheeler with 4:18 to go in the half. Wheeler scored on a quarterback sneak to end the half, making it a 34-0 game.

Davis and Wheeler hooked up from 21 yards out to start second-half scoring. Then Chris Colvin, who led the Tigers with 115 yards on 16 carries, plunged in from one yard out. That PAT kick was blocked, so it was 47-0.

Mitchell Stoughton scored on a six-yard run in the fourth quarter for the Tigers, who improved to 4-1 in the SEK and 5-1 overall.

The Tigers evened the series with Independence with this win. It's tied at 36-36 with four ties. Fort Scott has outscored Indy 565-74 during its 12-game winning streak over the 'Dogs. who fell to 0-4, 1-5.
