KC Wolf offers tips on how to Look Before You Leap

Look Before You Leap students were greeted by special guest Dan Meers, also known as KC Wolf, Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Nevada Middle School.

Meers, the KC Chief's mascot for 18 years spoke to almost 200 students about his life, and lessons he learned. Beginning his career as Truman the Tiger, mascot of the University of Missouri, Meers graduated to become the St. Louis Cardinals mascot, Fredbird.

While with the Cardinals, Meers received a call inviting him to become KC Wolf the Chiefs mascot, named after a group of fans at a previous KC stadium referred to as the "wolf pack."

Meers spoke to the LBYL participants about the A-B-C's of success, talking about positive attitude, behavior, and character. Highlighting the event Meers picked a child from the audience to be dressed in the KC Wolf suit and put on a small performance.

LBYL the only elementrary level anti-drug program in the state was founded by Trisha Brandt in 1997 after her son was killed by a drunk driver. The club offers younger students the oportunity to learn about the effects of tobacco, drug, alcohol use and attend special events. For more information. e-mail Brandt at tbrandt@nevada.k12.mo.us .
