Emily May Ivie Jackson

Emily May Ivie Jackson, age 83, a resident of rural Redfield, Kan., died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at the St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. She was born Jan. 16, 1924, in Nampa, Idaho, the daughter of Bert Ivie and Ellen May Lloyd Ivie. May first married Robert J. Jackson on June 10, 1941. He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1976. She later married Delbert Barr on July 7, 2007.

During World War II, May worked as a welder in the ship yards in Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson moved to Kansas in 1956. She first worked as a window decorator for J.C. Penney and then later as a file clerk for the Western Insurance company for more than 30 years. May enjoyed all types of crafts and was an avid quilter, rug maker, and painter. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden and specialized in growing iris and peonies. She was a member of the Community Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Delbert, of the home; two daughters, Wilma Bradbury and husband, Mick and Mary McKinnis and husband, Jim all of Fort Scott; a step-daughter, Helen Wade and husband, O.J., of Devon, Kan. Also surviving is a brother, Bert Ivie, Ontario, Ore.; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, a daughter, Rosalie Smith, a step-son, Jim Jackson, a granddaughter, Joyce Holland, a step-grandson, Phil Wade, four sisters and five brothers.

The Rev. Kevin Moyers will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Community Christian Church. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Neodesha City Cemetery, Neodesha, Kan. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel.
