Popular 'Financial Peace' program returns to Nevada

Thursday, December 13, 2007

First Baptist Church is set once again to host Dave Ramsey's bibically-based income counseling seminar for families, "Financial Peace University." Following a successful class held in August, the video-based seminar is planning a return to Nevada.

More than 180,000 families across the country have attended the program consisting of 13 class sessions which gather one day per week. Each session consists of two parts; a video class taught by Ramsey, and a group discussion between local participants to hold each other accountable and support one another.

Dave Ramsey began teaching FPU classes in 1994 every night in the Nashville, Tenn., area. In 1997, FPU was made available on video across the country with thousands of classes around the nation today.

"I like to put the cookies on the shelf where everyone can reach them," says Ramsey.

After each lesson the group members help one another plan budgets, discuss successes and temptations, and support one another in their journey to beat debt and build wealth.

The subjects covered by the classes are:

* Saving for emergencies

* Cash flow planning

* Relating with money

* Buying big bargains

* Dumping debt

* Understanding investments

* Understanding insurance

* Retirement and college planning

* Buyer beware

* Real estate and mortgages

* Careers and extra jobs

* Collection practices and credit bureaus

* The "Great Misunder-standing"

According to information on Ramsey's Web site, FPU takes the knowledge from God and turns it into real action in people's lives through a step-by-step process.

A free preview of the program will be held tonight at 7 o'clock, at the First Baptist Church, 301 E. Highland Ave., Nevada. Actual seminar classes begin Wednesday, Jan. 9, and Sunday, Jan. 13. Child care will be available for participants at all the meetings.
