Eight players representing two area high schools recently received All-Class football honors from Kansas two major newspapers.

The highest honors went to one player each from Fort Scott High and Pleasanton. FSHS senior Clint Lawrence was honored by both the Topeka Capital-Journal and the Wichita Eagle as an All-Class 4A first team linebacker. Pleasanton's Chris Duggins was tabbed by the Capital-Journal as an All-Class 2-1A defensive lineman while the Eagle saw fit to give him All-Class honors as an offensive linemen.

Topeka also gave All-Class 4A honorable mention status to seniors Tony Karleskint at tight end, Jeff Johnson as a lineman and Luke Halsey as a specialist. The Eagle also picked Karleskint and Halsey -- giving the latter kudos as a running back -- while also honoring senior quarterback Matt Wheeler and junior receiver Alex Barner.

Pleasantion junior T.J. Davis earned All-Class 2A honorable mention honors as a linebacker from both papers.

No athletes from Uniontown or Jayhawk-Linn were honored although former UHS student Gage McKinnis received honors in Class 6A. The Capital-Journal placed him on the first team as a defensive back while the Eagle had him tabbed as an honorable mention running back.
