Nevada grapplers win at Seneca

Special to the Daily Mail -- Nevada wrestlers dominated the competition at the Seneca Tournament on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25 and 26. Nevada won the tournament with 275.5 points, easily outpacing Willard, 202, Moberly 199.5, McDonald, 174.5 and Seneca with 154 points. Carl Junction with 126, Diamond, 69.5 and Seneca JV with 11.5 points, rounding out the eight teams participating. Friday was pool play setting up the eight-man double elimination brackets for Saturday. The strong Nevada lineup had a wrestler in the finals in all but two weight classes. Bringing home first place finishes for Nevada were Dominic Habjan at 112 pounds, Mason Heard at 119 pounds, Cole Bond at 160 pounds and Spenser Daniels at 189 pounds. Placing second were Todd Brier at 135 pounds, Colby Shepard at 140 pounds, Austin Denning at 145 pounds, Josh Palmer at 152 pounds and Ryan Herda at 215 pounds. Trey Miller at 125 pounds, Scott Bough at 130 pounds and Jerrod Alexander at Heavyweight all brought home third place finishes. Nevada is set to close out its dual competition with a very busy week. Carl Junction visited Nevada Jan. 29 for Senior night, and Nevada travels to Buffalo on Jan. 31 and Neosho Feb. 1. Nevada grapplers look to defend their district title Feb. 8 and 9 in Monett.
