Iva Whitworth Shaw, 96, of Moundville, passed away, on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at her daughter's home in Moundville following a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 11, 1911, in Moundville, to Henry Alvy Whitworth and Annie Emma Hurlburt Whitworth. She married Ira O. Shaw on July 22, 1931, in Stockton. He preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 1984.

Iva was born and raised in Moundville and graduated from Moundville High School in 1929. She attended one year at Missouri State Teachers College and taught one year at Phillips School, near Milo. Iva worked at Cottey College as the book store manager for 21 years, retiring in 1975. She was a lifelong resident of Moundville and a member of the Moundville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, LaVon Fryer, of Moundville, LaVern Worrell and her husband John L., of Rye, Texas, and Sally Bartlett and her husband Jack C., of Bentonville, Ark.; 11 grandchildren, Kalua R. King and husband Greg, Cherry R. Kuster and husband David, Kevin Reed and wife Debbie, Fred Fryer and wife Shelley, Jerry A. Hitchcock and wife Jean, Carole Cude and husband David, Carrie Brown and husband Marlon, Joel Hitchcock and wife Cindy, Michelle Booher and husband Paul, Shannon Bartlent and John Anthony Worrell and wife Angie; 22 great-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Ira, she was preceded in death by one grandson, David Reed in 1991; one great-granddaughter Amanda Milam in 2004; one sister Audra McFarland and one brother, Omer Whitworth.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the United Methodist Church, in Moundville, with Joel Hitchcock officiating. Interment will follow in Welborn Cemetery, in Moundville. Friends may call now and until 10 a.m., on Saturday, and the family receives friends from 7-8 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 29, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
