These games were originally set to be held at Highland but bad field conditions there prevented that. The teams then agreed to swap their home dates, with the April 10 doubleheader originally set for Fort Scott switched over to Highland's home field.
Fort Scott swept the Scotties 12-2 in a five-inning run-rule verdict and 6-2. The Greyhounds improved their overall record to 6-3.
The Greyhounds were set to host defending Eastern Division champion Cowley today at 1 p.m., in another conference doubleheader, weather permitting. If that is not played, the 'Hounds will be at home against Johnson County in a KJCCC twinbill Tuesday at 1, before going on their spring break trip to Arizona.
Pre-season All-American pitcher Jeff Rydman got his first victory of the season in the opening game. He pitched all five innings, allowing five hits and no walks while striking out four.
The Greyhound offense pounded out 12 hits. They scored in every inning, putting up eight in the bottom of the fourth.
Jason Houston went two for three with four runs batted in and also belted his first home run of the season. Zach Caldwell went three for three with a triple and an RBI. Zach Higgins was two for three, scoring twice, and Joel Fisk was two for two, scoring two runs. Houston and Brandt Barnes also scored two runs each.
Fort Scott's scored two runs in the second inning of game two and added four in the third. Highland scored its only runs in the top of the seventh.
Andrew Minnich was two for three and also bashed his first homer. He, Trevor Geist and Brandon Davis -- who also hit a home run -- had two RBIs each.
Dan Huff got his first win of the season on the hill as he allowed four hits and one walk while striking out five as he went into the seventh inning. Zach Juliano closed the game out, allowing a hit and a walk.
Early-season stats show Caldwell as the Greyhounds' leading batter with a .563 average after five games. Houston, who has played in all nine games, is second at .520 and Ryan Daniel is third at .500.
