Verl Murl Burchell

Verl Murl Burchell, 90, Rich Hill, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2008, in Independence, Mo., following a lengthy illness. She was born Aug, 22, 1917, in Metz, to Louie Ragan and Blanche Leota Shaffer Ragan. She married Troy Burchell on April 7, 1937, in Nevada. He preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1981.

Verl was born and reared in the Metz area and spent most all of her life there. She was a member of the Metz United Methodist Church. She was a hard working homemaker. She loved quilting and was an avid gardener.

Survivors include three sons, Walter Burchell, of Rich Hill, Robert Eugene Burchell, of Nevada, and William Lee Burchell, of Metz; three daughters, Mary Ann Leer, of Nevada, Pearl Elizabeth McMurray, of Lamar, and Mae Orlich, Independence; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren and one on the way; two sisters, Lucille Carter, Peculiar, Mo., and Joann Wadel, Kansas City, Kan., and one brother, Charlie Ragan, Wheatland, Mo. She was preceded in death by one son, Clarence Burchell, and two grandchildren, Donald Johnson and Nicole Leer.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, March 15, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with pastor Connie Locke officiating. Interment will follow in Balltown Cemetery, Horton. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 1-2 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to Crossroad Hospice in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
