Flood warning in effect for Marmaton

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Marmaton River near Nevada, from Wednesday afternoon through some time Friday, or until the warning is canceled. Those with property or livestock near the river should monitor conditions, the NWS said.

At this point, minor flooding is expected. Although the river was at 13.5 feet at about 7:45 p.m., Tuesday -- well below flood stage of 20 feet -- forecasters expected a crest of about 20.5 feet early Thursday morning.

Flash flooding was also to be a factor overnight.
