The second year of the tournament Dr. Ted Davis, former superintendent of Nevada R-5 schools, came within two inches of a hole in one that would have won him a 2005 Buick LaCrosse.
"It was fun and it was for a good cause," Davis said that year. "It would have been wonderful but a miss is as good as a mile and I never expected to get it but I wouldn't mind trying again next year."
The tournament is sponsored by Aquila and KNEM/KNMO Radio. Proceeds from this year's tournament will be used to purchase cardiac monitoring equipment for the NRMC Intensive Care Unit. The Golf Classic will be held at the Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course and will include the following: Three-person scramble, shotgun start at 9 a.m., registration gifts, continental breakfast and buffet lunch, awards ceremony and a silent auction.
Golfers will have the opportunity to win great prizes, including a 2008 GM vehicle courtesy of Guthrie Motors. The silent auction features many desirable items including sports memorabilia, sports tickets, golf equipment, gift certificates and much more.
Golfers can also compete in contests such as a skins game, longest putt and closest to the pin. The entry fee is $300 per team, and the registration deadline is Friday, May 9.
Entry forms are available at Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course, the Chamber of Commerce, the Country Club and KNEM/KNMO Radio. Sponsorships are available. For more information or to register, contact the NRMC Foundation at (417) 448-3609.
Last year, 32 teams competed in the event. John Shumaker hit a hole-in-one on hole No. 4, winning an autographed print collection from golf artist Marci Rule.
