The Nevada Garden Club members have selected the home of Liz and Arden Roush , 702 S. College St., with its lovely landscaped yard, as their first Yard of the Week for 2008. The front yard has a beautiful curved bed of azaleas with boxwood accents as well as a Japanese maple.
Along the south side of the house are two burning bushes and a "secret garden" filled peonies is hidden in a small alcove toward the rear of the house. Just outside this garden is a climbing rose and a honeysuckle vine with a cardinals nest climbs a trellis over the kitchen window. Liz Roush said they can sit at their kitchen table and watch the cardinals fly to and from its nest. Their fenced backyard has flower bed with tulips, roses, English ivy, salvia, lupine and bleeding hearts. Just off the deck at the rear of the house is a plum tree and bird bath surrounded by boxwoods, clematis and a snowberry bush. Liz Roush, who moved here with her husband eight years ago from northwest Kansas, said that she likes to have a mixture of color and texture in her garden.
Arden Roush said that their tip for gardeners is to "keep everything watered."
