Herald-Tribune

RICHMOND, Kan. -- Jayhawk-Linn's girls won the inaugural Pioneer League Relays here Friday, outdistancing second-place Anderson County by 59 points while the boys finished just four points behind Osawatomie in the chase for the boys' title.

Among the girls' winners were Merial Long in the 400 meters, Brogan Hoover in the 800, Morgan Eastwood in the 100-meter hurdles and Taylor Dawson, the defending Class 3A State champion, in long jump.

Also winning were a pair of relay teams: The 4x100 with Chelsea Beckman, Eastwood, Cassie Rockers and Dawson and the 4x400 with Eastwood, Hoover, Rockers and Dawson.

Boys' champs were Briar Snyder in the 110-meter hurdles, Steven Mann in the long jump and triple jump. The Jayhawks' 4x100-meter relay team was also a winner, taking the title by just 1/10th of a second over Anderson County.

The Jayhawks will travel to Baxter Springs Friday for a Kansas Class 3A Regional Meet.

NOTE: Due to an error somewhere along the way, the Fort Scott Tribune had reported that the Pioneer League Relays were going to be at Jayhawk-Linn. We regret the error and any confusion that may have caused.
