Carole (Hardy) Greenlund, 94 years old, of Atchison, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at the Atchison Senior Village.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Dr. Raymond C. Hartjen Jr. officiating. The body has been cremated, no visitation will be held. Memorial contributions are suggested to either the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary or Trinity Episcopal Church. Mrs. Greenlund was born on Aug. 19, 1913, in Pulaski, Va. the fifth child of James Monroe and Bessie (Barte) Hardy. She was married to Nelson Greenlund on July 26th, 1934 in Baltimore, Md. He preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1974. Mrs. Greenlund was active in many civic organizations, sitting on the Board of Directors for the Atchison County Board of Health, a member of the Bellevue Country Club and the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary. She was a founding member of the Hospital Auxiliary and was chairwoman of its "Follies" twice. She loved the game of golf and won several titles. She was also an avid bridge player and played well into her 90s. Mrs. Greenlund loved to travel, and had been to many parts of the world.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dr. Nelson and Susan Greenlund, of Nevada; a daughter, Sally and her husband Dr. Forest Irons, Casper, Wyo.; three grandchildren, Dr. Andrew Greenlund, Rochester, Minn.., Matthew Greenlund, Broadlands, Va., and Caro Santilli Patterson, Tuscan, Ariz., and three great-grandchildren. Her parents, husband, one brother, two half brothers, and three sisters preceded her in death.
